Moza Promotes art and environmental sustainability

As part of the social and environmental responsibility program, Moza Banco launched the "Art and Sustainability" project last Saturday, July 28, 2018, at Mateus Sansão Muthemba Secondary School in Maputo. The initiative aims to promote environmental civic education, with emphasis on the reuse and recycling of paper and other utensils.
At the launch of the project, which was partnered by Universidade Pedagógica, around 60 students from grades 8 and 9, the school's governing body, representatives from Moza, Universidade Pedagógica and former Mozambican footballers based in Portugal, Hilário da Conceição and Sheu Han, who are sponsors of the initiative, were present.
On that occasion, the Moza Banco representative, Mr Adam Yussof, Director of the Department of Communication and Social Responsibility expressed its satisfaction at being able to contribute to the preservation of the environment through this awareness campaign aimed at the youth and adolescents.
"We are pleased to be able to share the concept of environmental sustainability with this group of students. With this initiative, under the scope of Moza’s corporate citizenship, we showed that it is possible to reuse discarded materials for some important purposes, "he said.
The Moza representative added: "The challenge is to bring this awareness to more and more people, because we believe that if each of us produces less solid waste; reuse and recycle the existing waste, we will have a healthy environment and a world which we can be proud of ".
In turn, the Headmaster of Sansão Muthemba Secondary School, Ernesto Ngomane, welcomed the Moza’s initiative. “Our students are pleased and motivated to be a part of this initiative, I believe they have absorbed the knowledge shared about environmental sustainability and I hope they apply it in their daily lives. The material produced will be posted in different areas of the school, to serve as teaching material to current and future students of our school”.
The students, under the guidance of the visual artist, Titos Pelembe, member of the Art Nucleus in Maputo city, transformed pamphlets, posters and other materials donated by Moza into works of art. The students, in turn, promised to replicate in their communities what they learnt in the workshop.
"I knew that it was possible to turn garbage into a work of art, but it did not matter because I did not have much information, from now on I will change my behaviour, thanks to this workshop promoted by Moza," praised Inácia Cumbana, a Sansão Muthemba Secondary School student.
One of the sponsors of the initiative Sheu Han, a former player, coach, technical secretary and current member of the management of Sport Lisboa e Benfica, a Portuguese club, has no doubt that the action will contribute to the construction of a healthy environment.
"I'm thrilled that when they invited us to participate in the event, they told us to give a message to the students, but I just got the message, which is to convey to people the importance of preserving the environment because, change begins with us, in our house, in our neighbourhood. "
The former athletes, Hilário da Conceição and Sheu Han are in Maputo at the invitation of the Universidade Pedagógica, with the support of Moza, for a work visit that involves several activities, including lectures and visits to institutions and schools essentially aimed at sharing knowledge, other personal and professional experiences, not only on sport but also on the preservation of the environment.
It should be noted that, recently, Moza donated basic necessities to the Luis Cabral Community in Maputo.
