Moza Banco proceeded this Tuesday 24^th May with its delivery of farming seeds to small farmers associations operating in several districts in Gaza province. The bank also donated sets of sheets and blankets to underprivileged children with physical impairments.

This act aligns with the Bank's Corporate Social Responsibility Policy, which has one of its main focuses on developing activities that contribute to the economic and social progress of the communities where the Bank operates.

From the seeds donated, emphasis was on corn, lettuce, onions, cabbage, soybeans and pigeon peas. The farmers were satisfied with the initiative, “Thank you very much to Moza Banco for this donation, we did not expect it, the seeds we received will help us in our production, not only for family food, but also to sell” Maria Joana said on behalf of the farmers.

Meanwhile, Moza Banco’s CEO, Manuel Soares, said that “Moza Banco sees itself as a Bank of Mozambicans for Mozambicans, and is committed to actively contributing to the country’s inclusive socioeconomic development. It is within this vision and positioning and recognising the Government's commitment to the agricultural sector given the enormous potential in the province, that we are ready to support this sector by offering various seeds to local farmers, namely beans, maize, onions, lettuce and carrots, in order to boost agricultural production. We aim with this support to contribute to promote food self-sufficiency and improve the income generation capacity of these farmers. Also, within the context of our Social Responsibility, and in order to provide greater comfort and protection to our children who are in a situation of vulnerability, we are supporting them with sets of blankets and sheets. We are aware that these simple contributions will not solve definitively the problems of the population and the Province, but we believe that it is an important step towards achieving our common objective: to improve the quality of life of Mozambicans in general”. 

The Secretary of State for Gaza, Amosse Macamo welcomed Moza Banco’s initiative stating that, “This donation is welcome, we believe that it will alleviate the suffering of those who need it. At the moment it is raining and with these seeds we hope to produce again, not only for food security but also to secure income. We are also grateful for the bedding material offered to the crèche. This is a place that we have always paid special attention to because we have orphaned children there who need everything, and with this help they do not feel alone.”

It should be recalled that recently in Nampula, Moza Banco donated various food products to victims of cyclone Gombe and Tropical Storm Ana; in Sofala the bank supported the Mozambican police (PRM) with construction material to improve the infrastructure of the 8th police station in Manga in the city of Beira; in Manica/Niassa, Moza donated medicines to the provincial hospital in Lichinga.

Last Thursday, Moza Banco donated essential goods to improve the living conditions of children housed in the Provincial Orphanage and for the elderly in the Centre for Elderly Support in Massinga, both in Inhambane province. The items in question are waterproof mattresses, sheets and t-shirts, offered following a request made by the Secretary of State of the Province, expressing the need for durable goods to be acquired.

Speaking moments after the delivery of the donations, Moza Banco’s CEO, Manuel Soares, said that Moza sees itself as a Mozambican Bank for Mozambicans, which is why it is committed to actively contributing to the country’s inclusive socio-economic development. It is within this vision that the bank decided to join this cause and made the donation.

“We make these donations because we are sensitive to the real problems and difficulties of our population and, above all, because we want to be part of their solution. We are aware that this simple contribution will not definitively solve the problems faced by the orphanage and the old age centre, but we believe that it will be an important contribution to improve the accommodation conditions of the people who are there or who come to stay in this housing, with these families”.

Representing the Government, the Secretary of State in Inhambane, Ludmila Maguni, was pleased and thanked Moza for its gesture, “The government has been doing its part to protect vulnerable people, but such action should also be in the interest of all social actors and Moza Banco is a clear example, so thank you very much for this support”.

Moza Banco on Tuesday delivered kits of assorted vegetable seeds, aimed at supporting over 400 families affected by cyclone ANA in February this year and that are currently resettled in Chingodzi neighbourhood, one of the most populated neighbourhoods in the centre of Tete city.

This gesture of solidarity comes in the wake of contact made by the Province’s Secretary of State, expressing the need to support families who had lost arable land and had therefore seen their farming capacity and income generation for self-sufficiency compromised.

Becoming aware of the situation, Moza Banco responded promptly to the request, providing more than 1,500 units of horticultural seeds, as part of its institutional solidarity.

“It was in following this principle, and in close collaboration with the Province’s Secretary of State, that we acquired various vegetable seeds, especially tomatoes, cabbages and onions, to give to the families affected. By providing this support, the bank expects to ease the suffering of these families, helping to restore their farming capacity, thus improving their food self-sufficiency and income generation capacity. We are aware that this simple contribution will not put an end to the challenges faced by the population, but we believe that it is an important step towards restoring hope and optimism for a promising future,” Moza Banco’s CEO Manuel Soares, said.

Speaking on the occasion, the Secretary of State for Tete province, Elisa Zacarias, expressed her satisfaction with Moza's gesture, “These families have lost almost everything, having, aside from their homes, lost other family assets and livelihoods. The seeds that we have just received now, will contribute to production in this second season of the agricultural campaign, for family consumption and to sell for income generation. Once again, our thanks go to Moza Banco for this gesture.”

As the second season of the agricultural campaign is underway, the Secretary of State requested that the seeds be immediately distributed to the beneficiaries via INGD, as a way to avoid delays in production. Likewise, she appealed to the district services of economic activities to monitor and give technical assistance to the beneficiary families.

Also in Tete province, in March, Moza Banco joined the efforts of Angónia district’s government, with a view to minimising the suffering of over 300 families that were victims of Cyclone ANA, by donating non-perishable food products.

The victims of cyclone Gombe and tropical storm Ana, which recently affected the province of Nampula, have continued to receive support to minimise the suffering to which they are currently subjected.

On Monday, Moza Banco delivered food products consisting of cooking oil and butter beans to the Secretary of State in Nampula province. This act is part of the bank’s Corporate Social Responsibility Policy, which has one of its main focuses on developing activities that contribute to the economic and social progress of the communities where the bank operates.

The CEO of Moza Banco, Manuel Soares, says that “We decided to implement this initiative because we want to contribute to alleviating the suffering of the families affected. Our commitment is to the well-being of Mozambicans and to the continuous improvement of people's quality of life. We are aware that our gesture, in itself, will not effectively resolve the problem, but we believe it is a significant contribution to this great struggle for continuous improvement in their quality of life.” 

The Secretary of State for Nampula Mety Gondola, welcomed Moza Banco's initiative, saying that, “We express our deep gratitude and satisfaction on behalf of the people of Nampula. This support is important because it comes in response to the problems of those families affected by tropical cyclone Gombe and tropical storm Ana, and who at this time are still getting back on their feet. The help from Moza Banco will be very useful and we will reach the families who are currently facing difficulties.”

The donated goods have already been delivered to the National Institute of Natural Disaster Management (INGD), to be immediately forwarded to the affected families.

In Nampula province. Cyclone Gombe and tropical storm Ana affected over 642,000 people, mostly in coastal districts and caused around 53 deaths.

Moza Banco on Monday delivered medicines and surgical equipment to the provincial hospital of Chimoio, Manica province, comprising several types of medicines that will benefit over 600 patients.

This act fits in with Moza Banco's Social Responsibility Policy, which has one of its main focuses on developing activities that contribute to the economic and social progress of the communities where the Bank operates, thereby fostering sustainable relationships with its stakeholders.

During his speech, the CEO of Moza Banco, Manuel Soares, said that, “It is with great satisfaction that we are here today, to make the formal delivery of medicines and medical material for surgery such as syringes, serum systems, devices for the diagnosis of chronic diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, psychiatric disorders and newborn prophylaxis. This material will benefit over 600 patients at this Hospital. By granting this support, the Bank expects to improve Manica Provincial Hospital’s response capacity, thereby increasing the availability and accessibility of these medications to more people. On the other hand, we hope to contribute to strengthening the means for the diagnosis of chronic diseases. I would like to take this opportunity to appeal for a rational and sustainable use of the resources made available here, so that they benefit the largest number of people”.

Meanwhile, the Secretary of State for Manica, Edson Macuacua, welcomed the initiative from Moza Banco, saying, “We would like to express our sincere thanks for the kind and important donation made by Moza Banco to the Provincial Hospital of Chimoio, which will be applied in the pursuit of our institutional objectives, as we know that for a country like ours, the participation from everyone remains key“.

Moza Banco’s CEO concluded his speech by stating that “we are aware that these simple contributions will not solve all the hospital's problems, but we believe that it is an important step in the direction we want: to give health back to patients and improve the quality of life of Mozambicans in general”.
