Moza Banco launches financial literacy programme in national languages
14/03/2023

As part of Moza Banco's efforts to increase access to and use of financial services by more Mozambicans, on 20th February the Bank launched a financial literacy radio programme called “Conta com o Moza” (“Count on Moza”).

The programme is aimed at people in rural areas, including farmers, small traders, civil servants and state agents, students and low-income women, covering in this first phase (5) districts where the Bank currently has MADER branches, opened under the government initiative "One District, One Bank", namely: Derre (Zambezia); Memba and Murrupula (Nampula); Chimbunila and Majune (Niassa).

There will be a total of 12 editions in which concepts, best practices, security tips and other useful information related to financial services and personal finance management are broadcast weekly in local languages. The programme will be aired at times when there is the largest audience in these locations, namely Mondays at 5.40am, with a repeat on Wednesdays at 6pm.

With this focus on the use of predominant local languages, Moza Banco has become the first banking institution to adopt this approach to communicate financial content.

The Bank's strategy of using the languages people communicate best with, in informal and targeted communication, as well as inclusive and mass media - radio, combined with the inclusion of a gender-sensitive approach, demonstrates its commitment to inclusion, particularly for low-income groups, in areas far from the main urban centres, living up to its standing as a Mozambican Bank for everyone.

The "Conta com o Moza" programme is produced by FEEDBACK, a specialised communications agency, and it also sees it team up with Technoserve/WIN, a programme that seeks to promote the economic empowerment of women through entrepreneurship, and which co-financed the baseline study with a view to ascertaining the real barriers faced by these communities, their financial management habits and needs.

In order to ensure the quality intended, the start of the programme was preceded by training for its presenters, which took place on 13th and 14th February. The training included a component linked to gender equality so that the presenters had this awareness when presenting the programmes.

With the effective start of "Conta com o Moza" it is expected that the population of the chosen communities may increase their level of financial literacy, so that they can make a responsible and conscious use of financial services and products, resulting in the improvement of their quality of life and well-being.

Due to the importance of this financial education programme, the Bank expects to expand the programme to further locations, reaching an increasing number of people.

Moza Banco discusses sustainability of Mozambican companies
07/03/2023

Moza Banco participated this morning, 15th February, at Meliá Hotel, in Maputo, in the Breakfast on Economics and Business, themed “Macroeconomic Prospects for 2023 and Sustainability of Mozambican Companies”.

This was an event promoted by the Association of Commerce, Industry and Services (ACIS) in partnership with the Mozambican Stock Exchange and Moza, and brought together several relevant stakeholders in the country's development, in particular representatives from the Public Sector, Private Sector Development Support Agencies, diplomatic institutions, entrepreneurs, among others for a reflection on the foreseeable scenario for Mozambican companies in 2023 and their sustainability.

Moza Banco was part of the panel of speakers, represented by Executive Committee Member, Jaime Joaquim, whose intervention focused on the solutions that the Bank has for financing companies, focusing on the special lines of credit available at Moza.

"It is in our best interest to contribute in every way to support the country’s business sector, and that is why we are presenting financing solutions at the event, particularly credit lines with special conditions and attractive rates, which allow businesses to recover, maintain and/or expand their activities, thus ensuring their sustainability, even in a context such as the one we are in, which remains challenging. I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate ACIS for establishing this important platform for dialogue and knowledge sharing, which aims to bring local businesspersons closer to other players in the business sector, such as banking, the stock exchange and academia, in order to make companies more robust and sustainable".

The panel of speakers also included Alexis Meyer, representative of the International Monetary Fund in Mozambique and Salim Valá, Chairman of the Board at the Mozambique Stock Exchange.

The participation and support of Moza Banco to the event is part of the financial institution's focus on supporting business activity in the country, in various sectors, by providing integrated financial solutions to meet the diverse needs of Mozambican companies, thus contributing to the country’s sustained and inclusive socio-economic development.

Moza Banco launches 2nd edition of Journalism Prize
20/01/2023

The launch ceremony for the 2nd Edition of the Moza Banco Journalism Prize took place on the morning of Wednesday 7th December, in Marrabenta Auditorium, at the bank's Head Office. The event was led by the Permanent Secretary from the Ministry of Justice, Constitutional and Religious Affairs, Manuel de Jesus Malunga and was attended by Moza Banco’s CEO, Manuel Soares and the General Secretary of the National Union of Journalists, Eduardo Constantino.

Original works by professional journalists, or a group of journalists, duly signed and published/issued in Portuguese in a registered media outlet in Mozambique between 1 October 2022 and 31 March 2023 and that portray examples of resilience and development for the country, can contest this prize.

"The theme of this second edition of the prize is "Mozambicans who matter: examples of resilience and development for the country", a theme carefully chosen taking into account the current context, and especially the path that we wish to follow together. We want to praise those Mozambicans, who among many anonymous heroes, stand out in the most varied spheres for their work and contribution to the country’s development, overcoming the most complex adversities. We intend to share stories that inspire, deeds that make us proud. We launch here the challenge to media professionals, so that with the creativity, intrinsic investigative vein, and unparalleled ability to report facts that is their characteristic, they bring to the general public these examples of resilience and development for the country", Moza Banco CEO Manuel Soares said.

The National Union of Journalists, represented by Secretary General Eduardo Constantino, appealed to media professionals to enter en masse, "this being a commendable initiative because it will contribute to the achievement of quality journalistic works."

Speaking on behalf of the Minister, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Justice, Constitutional and Religious Affairs, Manuel de Jesus Malunga, praised the initiative from Moza Banco, and then said that "this project will encourage the media to investigate more on issues of social interest and we hope that it will portray what is best in the country".

It should be noted that the Moza Banco Journalism Prize was established in 2021, and aims to encourage media professionals to research, produce and publish articles that contribute to demonstrating what is best in Mozambique, as well as generating a positive impact on society, and rewarding excellence in journalistic activity in the social, cultural and sports areas.

The distinction of the best works published in the national media covers three categories, namely, Written Press, Radio and Television.
